Govan Graving Dock transformation plan to go to public consultation

A new development plan has been announced for Govan Graving Docks, as community workshops are underway.

As part of the proposed regeneration project, an active travel route and riverside park will be built in the Glasgow riverside area.

Members of the community have also been invited to input their ideas into the design of the new greenery which would offer a connected route from the east to west of the city.

The first workshops to collate ideas will be held on May 25 at the Riverside Hall between 2.30pm - 4.30pm and at The Pearce Institute between 5.30pm - 7.30pm. These workshops will allow members of the community to view design proposals and voice their opinions.

It comes after the Scottish Government and Sustrans have awarded the council with funding to help deliver a riverside park and active travel route, which will be the two key components of the wider vision for the historic docks.

Following on from the awarded £2.4 million in February of this year, Central Govan Action Plan (CGAP) and New City Vision are eager to complete their project by 2025, ensuring the docks are an attraction for the local community, the wider city population and tourists - while also reversing biodiversity loss and habitat decline.

Initial funding for 2023/24 will oversee maintenance work completed to clear the site, alongside improving health and safety, with the remaining funding allocated to deliver the riverside park.

Developers are seeking ideas and interest from the local community and other interested stakeholders as they wish to co-design the green space to ensure the docks become a thriving and dynamic neighbourhood - one which the community are proud of. They are seeking such input at upcoming consultation workshops and events.

The active travel route will improve accessibility to the southern side of the river, as well as connecting the east and west of the city.
