New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy recently addressed concerns regarding unusual drone activity in parts of the region, particularly near President-elect Trump's Bedminster golf club. Governor Murphy assured the public that there is currently no threat to public safety.
In a statement posted on December 5th, Governor Murphy disclosed that he had organized a briefing with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, senior officials from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the state police, state Homeland Security and Preparedness, and New Jersey's congressional delegation to discuss the matter.
He emphasized, 'We are actively monitoring the situation and in close coordination with our federal and law enforcement partners on this matter. There is no known threat to the public at this time.'
Reports of drones flying in Somerset and Morris counties have raised concerns. A video captured on November 25th showed drones hovering over Black River Middle School in Chester, Morris County. The Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, located in Somerset County, was also mentioned in connection with the drone activity.
Additional drone sightings were reported in Bernardsville, Mendham, and Parsippany. In response to the unusual drone sightings on November 18th, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed issuing two temporary flight restrictions over the affected areas.
New Jersey State Senator Anthony Bucco, a Republican, revealed that some of the drones had flown over his residence. Senator Bucco stated, 'I have been assured that there is no known imminent threat from these devices.' He further mentioned that law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are actively gathering information on the drones and will provide updates to the public as new details emerge.
