Gotta stay in ‘em all: Japan hotel brand expands Pokémon room range

Pokémon fans visiting Japan can find everything from amusement parks to cafés and manhole covers to novelty trains designed around the media franchise.

For a fully immersive experience from day to night, staying in Pokémon-themed accommodation has become popular.

Now, MIMARU, an apartment-style hotel brand for families and groups, has announced the renovation and expansion of its much-loved Pokémon Rooms.

Originally launched in 2019, the Pokémon Rooms are now available at 10 MIMARU properties across Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. The latest additions include MIMARU TOKYO HATCHOBORI and MIMARU TOKYO IKEBUKURO.

The renovation is based around two core themes: "more Pokémon" and "more fun for the whole family".

The bathroom features Water-type Pokémon. (The bathroom features Water-type Pokémon.)

Featuring 100 characters adorning the walls, ceiling and furniture, the updates “transform each room into a vibrant space where Pokémon feel like they’ve leapt from their Poké Balls to join guests in daily life”, the brand wrote in a press release.

The apartment-style rooms provide spacious layouts with fully equipped kitchens, separate sleeping areas and dining spaces, ideal for multigenerational families or groups.

Guests can enjoy themed zones: the bathroom features Poké Ball 'bubbles' and Water-type Pokémon, while the kitchen is inhabited by food-loving characters.
