A historic ship sailed under Tower Bridge this morning on its way to Canary Wharf. The wooden vessel passed under the bridge at 8.30am.
The ship then turned around and passed under the bridge for a second time at 9am. It then continued its journey to Canary Wharf where it moored.
The Götheborg of Sweden is a replica of an 18th-century East India Company ship. It is a replica of the Swedish East Indiaman Götheborg I, which was built in 1738.
The original ship made three voyages to China. However, it sunk in 1745 on its return to Gothenburg harbour.
Onlookers were able to see the beautiful ship sail down the Thames as part of itss visit to London. But few got as good a look at the Götheborg as the staff at Tower Bridge, who managed to film the vessel through the bridge's glass floor. The video was shared on Twitter.
Plans to create a replica of the Götheborg where made when the wreckage of the original ship was found in 1984. Since then the replica has toured the world, sailing as far as Cape Town, Jakarta and Hong Kong.
