It's the case that has baffled detectives and amateur sleuths for decades.

The identity of the Somerton Man, whose body was found on an Adelaide beach in 1948, is regarded as one of Australia's most enduring mysteries because of strange clues linked to it, including a suspected code and a book of Persian poems.

While the mystery man's remains were exhumed last year by SA Police, University of Adelaide researcher Derek Abbott has persisted with his own independent efforts to crack the case.

After using hairs from a plaster bust of the man to gather DNA evidence, researchers in Australia and America now believe they know who he is.

Join ABC's The Somerton Man Mystery podcast host Fiona Ellis, case researcher Derek Abbott and forensic genealogist Colleen Fitzpatrick in a our Q&A blog as they take you through their journey in solving the mystery and answer some of your questions.
