Gordon Ramsay's 'painful' surgery transformation after make-up artist's scathing insult

Gordon Ramsay looks far less menacing these days - and that's thanks to the cosmetic surgery he's had on his face. The Hell's Kitchen star, who is known for screaming at amateur chefs in the kitchen, has been very open about freshening up his look with some surgical assistance.

It may come as a surprise to some people that fresh-faced Gordron, who now looks younger than ever, is celebrating his 56th birthday today. The Kitchen Nightmares star has previously revealed the three reasons why he decided to change his face - and one of them was down to the advice of Simon Cowell.

The first time it was claimed Gordon had undergone a procedure was in May 2008, but his spokesperson at the time denied it.

When asked for a comment, they said: "Gordon would be the first person to mercilessly take the p*** out of anyone that has had surgery."

But a year later, the shouty TV chef underwent a painful beauty treatment to have the deep grooves on his chin filled in after making it big in the US.

"My mother said they were smile lines. I could deal with that at 21, but not at 42," he told Radio Times in October 2009 - admitting it was the music mogul who convinced him to go for it.

"Simon Cowell suggested that now I'm a success in America, I should do something, so I had a filler put under the deep crevices. It hurt."

The procedure to inject filler to plump out the creases can cost up to £400 a time and needs multiple sessions per year to keep the smooth new look.

Speaking on Jonathan Ross' show, Gordon explained that it was a three-minute procedure that involved getting rid of two laughter lines.

"A small needle went underneath the line, scraped underneath and pushed it out. It was a sort of gel. I didn't even feel the prick," he explained, leading to lots of laughter from the studio audience.

Jonathan then mocked up on the screen what Gordon would look like with more lines, leaving the chef rolling on the floor when a photo of singer Barry Manilow appeared.

Gordon then became very paranoid about the lines on his head because his children were innocently mocking him about them.

He's dad to 24-year-old Megan, twins Jack and Holly, 22, Strictly Come Dancing star Tilly, 20, and two-year-old Oscar.

In 2009, Gordon revealed that he woke one morning to find daughter Tilly, who appeared on last year's Strictly, trying to 'squeeze pound coins in' to the cracks in his forehead.

At the time, he said: "I've got four children, and they've become, 'Dad, why have you got so many wrinkles on your face when Clementine's daddy has no wrinkles?'

"The lines were pretty horrific, like Scarface, and I was never embarrassed by it but my children helped me become more paranoid about it.

"You've seen the articles: craggy face, map of Wales, ugly, deflated rugby ball. There's only so much s*** you want to take. I woke up in the morning and Matilda was trying to squeeze pound coins in there."

Although there was another more embarrassing incident when a make-up artists in image-conscious Los Angeles reacted with horror to his face

She asked whether Gordon had ever been in a car crash as a child - leaving him determined to do something.

He said: "In LA it was all 'Oh my god, when did you go through the windscreen?' You put up with it, but then you get f***ing sick of it. I listened to what Simon Cowell said, and he said, 'Get it done, it'll make you look more…"

Speaking of the procedure, he added: "It took four minutes each side, lasered not Botoxed. No one noticed until I mentioned it. When you don't say anything you're classified as a liar, so you can't win. It's got me more s*** in the past six months…

"Am I going to have any more work done? Of course I'm not going to have any more f***ing work done. The amazing guy who did it said to me, 'Let's get one thing right. I am not, under any circumstances, ever going to touch that forehead'."

Gordon did spark concern in July 2017 when he rocked up at a big UFC showdown in California looking slightly strange.

After posting a snap on Instagram, many of his followers expressed concern for his face, which looked puffy and slightly more red.

One Instagrammer wrote: "His face is so puffy", another one said: "Gordon. Your face looks overcooked", while another one commented: "Something looks awfully wrong here".
