Republicans blow $25,000 on campaign ads after confusing two US cities

  • A Republican super PAC advertisement supporting Maine Sen. Susan Collins mistakenly aired in Portland , Oregon , instead of Portland, Maine.
  • The ad buyer, Cross Screen Media, accepted responsibility for the error, refunded the money, and redirected the ad placement to Maine.
  • Up to $25,000 was spent running the ad, titled "So Many Taxes," which targets Democratic Senate candidate Troy Jackson's tax record.
  • Sarah Chamberlain, CEO of the affiliated Republican Main Street Partnership, described the mix-up as a ridiculous mistake made by the ad placement team.
  • Social media users poked fun at the error as polls indicate a tight race between Collins and Jackson ahead of Election Day.
