Google Revealed Australia’s Most-Searched Celebs, How Tos And Words Of 2024 & It’s Very Demure

We’re at that pointy part of the year again where everyone gets exposed for what they’ve been obsessed with throughout 2024. This time around, Google has blown the lid off what folks were searching for non-stop. Don’t worry, it’s not NSFW, ya cheeky bastards.

Whilst Spotify might’ve left punters unimpressed with the way it’s presented its 2024 Wrapped, Google’s collection of its top searches for Aussies this year has been quite the stunner.

Upon reflection of this list, it honestly feels like 2024 had 50 years in one due to all the events that occurred such as the Olympics, the US Presidential election and Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour.

So without further ado, let’s check out the trending Google searches for Aussies in 2024.

What were the top searches on Google for Australia in 2024?

According to Google Australia’s Search Trends Communication Manager Camilla Ibrahim, this year’s round-up of searches shows that Aussies are “globally aware, passionate about sport, curious, creative and up for a challenge”.

  1. US election
  2. Olympics medal tally
  3. Euros
  4. Liam Payne
  5. Taylor Swift
  6. Connections
  7. Copa America
  8. T20 World Cup
  9. Ticketek marketplace
  10. Wheelchair tennis Paralympics

As much as we like to shit on Americans, it’s no secret that we love to stick our beaks in their business. As you can see by the list, the US election comes in at number one and with its results (spoiler alert: Donald Trump will be back in the White House), it was bound to be on the list.

The list also displays Australia’s interest in sports, which comes as no surprise with the Olympics and Paralympics. According to Google Australia, punters really showed their support for women in sports with searches for Raygun, Sam Kerr, Jess Fox, Saya Sakakibara, Arisa Trew and Ariarne Titmus landing spots in the top trending list of Aussies.

This leads up to our next exciting Google list…

Who were the top searches for Australian figures in 2024?

With that brief spoiler, Australian women in sports dominated the list alongside a bunch of notable figures who’ve been a part of major events throughout 2024.

  1. John Singleton
  2. Julian Assange
  3. Raygun
  4. Sam Kerr
  5. Bruce Lehrmann
  6. Jacob Elordi
  7. Jess Fox
  8. Saya Sakakibara
  9. Arisa Trew
  10. Ariarne Titmus

In a truly devastating finding, Australian entrepreneur John Singleton is listed as the top most searched Australian figure for 2024. His daughter, Dawn Singleton, 25, was one of the seven victims who were killed in the Bondi Westfield Stabbings earlier this year.

Julian Assange’s appearance on the list comes as no surprise following all the hullabaloo surrounding his case, where he pleaded guilty to one count of breaching the Espionage Act before being returned to Australia.

What were the top word definition searches in 2024?
