Google has placed one of their engineers on leave after he claimed a computer chatbot he was working on had developed feelings.
Blake Lemoine was placed on leave by the technology giant last week after he published transcripts of remarkable conversations between himself and the bot, which included a claim from the robot that being turned off would be "like death".
Blake, 41, who has been working on the bot LaMDA (language model for dialogue application) since the autumn, described the artificial intelligence (AI) system as a “sweet kid” following interactions between the pair.
