Good Morning Britain weather presenter Laura Tobin says the UK could have the hottest day ever this weekend.
She told ITV viewers the country had a one in three chance of going past the highest temperature ever recorded - 38.7C. In Newcastle, the mercury was set to hit 28C on Monday and Met Office experts predict the weather will remain warm in the North East over the coming days. Scroll down to see their full forecast.
On GMB, Laura said: “I think we’re sort of in two camps because many of us thinking, Yes, summer is finally here. It’s going to last at least a week. Let’s make the most of it because we jet off to try and find this kind of weather.

“But the weather will last for a very long time, particularly through the coming nights, we have 20 degrees temperatures at night. It makes it really difficult to sleep.
“But for us, current temperature are in the high twenties thirties, but next weekend we could get to thirty-five degrees. The hottest ever been in the UK it is worth pointing out is 38.7C. And there’s lots of rumours that we could break that. We’re likely to see record-breaking temperatures next weekend and the 30% chance we could have the highest temperature the UK has ever recorded.”
A UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) warning is in force from July 11 until July 15 for parts of the country, reports Leicestershire Live. Dr Agostinho Sousa, head of extreme events and health protection at UKHSA, said: “Heat-health alerts have now been issued to the majority of the country, with temperatures set to remain consistently high throughout the duration of next week.
“Most of us can enjoy the hot weather when it arrives, but it is important to keep yourself hydrated and to find shade where possible when UV rays are strongest, between 11am and 3pm. If you have vulnerable family, friends and neighbours, make sure they are aware of how they can keep themselves protected from the warm weather.”

Monday
Any isolated shallow fog patches at dawn will rapidly clear. A dry and very warm day to follow with long spells of sometimes hazy sunshine, and generally light winds. Maximum temperature 28°C.
Monday night
Staying dry overnight with some clear spells, although there will be increasing amounts of higher level cloud. Temperatures remaining warm, perhaps uncomfortably so. Minimum temperature 17°C.
Tuesday
A generally cloudier day with more of a breeze, and some patchy rain moving south. Clearer conditions following from the north before sunset. Still feeling warm. Maximum temperature 22°C.
Outlook for Wednesday to Friday
Wednesday and Thursday, mainly dry with sunny spells and feeling fresher. Isolated showers for western hills. Friday, cloudier in the north with patchy rain possible, otherwise dry with sunny spells.
