Good Morning Britain viewers say 'no need' as show falls off air as Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway fail to end debate

Good Morning Britain, quite literally, fell off air as Ben Shepherd and Kate Garraway tried to wrap up a fiery debate. The hosting pair were at the helm of the ITV news programme on Friday (June 16) to bring viewers the latest news, debates and showbiz gossip.

But before the end of the show, things turned chaotic when Ben and Kate were joined by ex-Conservative MEP David Bannerman and author and lawyer Dr Shola Mos-Shogbamimu live in the studio.

They appeared on the last edition of GMB of the week to debate whether Boris Johnson should be stripped of all perks, such as the yearly allowance of £115,000 former Prime Minsters receive, after he was found to have committed ‘repeated contempts’ of Parliament.

On Thursday (June 15), a cross-party investigation has found Mr Johnson had committed “repeated contempts” of Parliament by deliberately misleading MPs with his partygate denials before being complicit in a campaign of abuse and intimidation.

Branding him the first former prime minister to have ever lied to the Commons, the Privileges Committee said the offences merited a 90-day suspension which would have paved the way for a by-election if he had not quit in anticipation.

His resignation means he will escape that punishment but the committee recommended that he should not receive the pass granting access to Parliament which is normally given to former MPs. Mr Johnson was furious at what he called a “deranged conclusion”, accusing the Tory-majority group of MPs led by Labour veteran Harriet Harman, who he has repeatedly sought to disparage, of lying.

Appearing on GMB, David and Dr Shola went head-to-head with their opposing views. In his argument, David said: "It's very unfair and quite spiteful actually to strip Boris of all these perks that any other prime minister would get."

But Dr Shola argued: "His contempt for the values and standards that underpin our democracy is exactly why he should be stripped of everything." And the debate became increasingly intense between the pair with both guests repeatedly talking over each other with GMB viewers flocking to social media to comment.

@Itt39354118 tweeted: "No need for all the shouting over each other #gmb." @karmacomesback said: "Stop shouting over each other! #GMB." @gffcontwitch complained: "Totally lost control of that interview, ridiculous and pointless #GMB #ITVGMB." @Telenikros added: "#gmb what a way to end to the Friday episode."

Ben ended up waving to viewers as he and Kate struggled to speak (ITV)

Viewers were referring to the fact that Ben and Kate were unable to end the show as they usually would by saying goodbye to viewers and introducing Ranvir Singh, who was in for Lorraine Kelly on her ITV show.

The pair made attempts to interject but just ended up talking over their guests. "They're not going to stop," Kate was heard saying as Ben said: "We'll hand over to Ranvir, have a lovely weekend."

But as the camera stayed on them in the studio, the hosts looked into the camera shaking their heads in disbelief as David and Dr Shola continued to take over one another. And just before the camera cut away, Ben waved to the camera and mouthed 'bye' as Kate managed to get in a last farewell.
