Good Morning Britain viewers have shared their fury after presenter Ranvir Singh was told to "shush" by former politician Edwina Currie live on air. They were discussing Partygate and whether the PM should resign after it was announced on April 12 that Boris Johnson and the Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak have been notified that the Metropolitan Police will be issuing them with fines after breaching lockdown regulations.
During the debate on the ITV show on Wednesday morning, Ranvir, 44, says to Edwina: "You say you don't mind if he's lied, it doesn't matter to you. You said that you don't care if he misled parliament". To which Edwina, 75, quickly cut in: "I didn't say that. No, no, no, Don't put words into my mouth. Ranvir shush. I did not say that. I said there are more important things to get on with. I said that you can't change the past, I said you can't rewind the tape."
Viewers were quick to take to Twitter to react to the moment with many saying the former MP was "rude". La Seine added: "@GMB did you just allow Edwina Curry to tell you to shush as she retracted saying she did not care? #gmb why are you still inviting this incompetent, rude and authoritarian right wing mouth piece for these clowns?"
Debby Field: "Clucking Edwina Currie tells @ranvir01 (who remained polite and professional) to "Shush!" then proceeds to deny that she said she didn't care that Johnson lied (which she most certainly did). Unbelievable. #GMB" and Hélène tweeted: "@ranvir01 Edwina Currie owes you an apology for being so rude and dismissive. #gmb"
"Well done @ranvir01 for keeping your cool," Paul tweeted: "Edwina Curry wouldn't get away with telling me to hush and putting her finger over her lips. How ******* dare she @GMB #gmb". Pauline Smith added: "Edwina Currie - what a rude ignorant person. Telling @ranvir01 to shhhh on #GMB just rude. And as for “I don’t care” comment despicable. Ask 3m health and social care workers if they cared?!!!"
Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub from 6am.
