Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid 'hands over the show' as legendary host steps in

Susanna Reid handed over the reins of the show on Good Morning Britain today.

She had been appearing on the ITV day time show alongside co-star Ed Balls when she made a sudden change. She warned viewers of her actions as she offered an explanation.

The 52-year-old presenter said: "Right, we're just going to hand over the programme for a moment to a legendary broadcaster." The screen then cut to the special guest.

Jon Snow appeared as he read off some of the day's top headlines and telling viewers what would be up next. The studio applauded him as they cut to a break.

After the ads, Jon Snow appeared on the main desk alongside Susanna and Ed. They explained that he had a book out - The State of Us.

Susanna said to him: "It's great to see you. We miss you on Channel 4 news but it's fantastic having you on Good Morning Britain."

Jon replied: "Well, I feel really chuffed to have been allowed to come here. You know, it's not my channel." Susanna said: "Come back any time!"

Broadcaster Jon Snow was the face of Channel 4 news for 32 years before he announced his retirement in 2021. His final programme aired on December 23, 2021.

The 75-year-old once declined an OBE because he believed working journalists should not take honours from those about whom they report. He was also awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of Liverpool in 2011, despite being expelled from the institution after his part in a 1970 anti-apartheid socialist student protest.
