Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid declares 'enough' as she halts Prince Andrew row

Susanna Reid declared "that's enough" as she halted a heated debate on Good Morning Britain.

The broadcaster fronted today's edition of the ITV news programme alongside Ben Shephard. They anchored a debate on whether Prince Andrew could redeem his reputation amid reports the late Queen Elizabeth II considered this could be a route back to public life for the Duke of York.

The broadcasters were joined by Lady Victoria Hervey and and charity campaigner, Charlotte Proudman, to debate the issue. Lady Hervey dated Prince Andrew in 1999 and launched a staunch defence of the Duke of York live on air.

She said: "He has never been proven to do anything wrong. He's always stood by everything he said and has never admitted to any wrongdoing."

Charlotte Proudman hit back at the defence and said Prince Andrew is "going to get absolutely nowhere. She added: "It's perverse to suggest that the role of charities is to rehabilitate the image of someone accused of sex trafficking."

Virginia Giuffre has accused Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her while she was underage. Susanna cut Lady Hervey off as she made a number of "unsubstantiated" claims against Ms Giuffre.

Susanna said: "Let's not go into things that we can't substantiate and keep to the point. I'm not going to argue with you that Virginia Giuffre is a victim because she is without doubt a victim."

Lady Hervey continued to make the unsubstantiated claims and she even offered to make a bet with Susanna that her former partner would be proven to be innocent. Susanna dismissed the bet as "outrageous" and was later forced to bring an interview to a close.

She said: "I'm going to bring the interview to an end because you cannot smear victims of sex trafficking who have already been through hell." She added: "That's enough Lady Hervey. I'm sorry, we have to bring that to an end. The fact of the matter is, there are convictions in this case and we're not going to take issue with those."
