Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley under fire for 'patronising' guest

Good Morning Britain host Richard Madeley has been slated for his 'patronising' attitude and was even accused of bullying on the ITV show on Monday morning.

Just Stop Oil activist Miranda Whelehan appeared on the show alongside journalist Lowri Turner to discuss the justification of oil protests in the UK.

And when discussing this, Richard Madeley brought up the point that the clothes Miranda was wearing "owe themselves to some extent, to the manufacturing of oil and oil production."

As Miranda defended the acts of the protesters, and as Lowri heavily criticised their existence, viewers took to Twitter to defend the young guest on ITV.

One Twitter user said: "What did I just watch on good morning Britain!!! A young woman comes on to highlight the SERIOUSNESS of the climate emergency and lowry turner and the supposedly impartial RICHARD MADELEY attacking her for wearing clothes when shortly Bangladesh will he underwater. DISGRACE #gmb"

Another agreed, writing: "Very poor journalism, climate crisis and you’re talking about her clothing? She’s right to not answer the question. This is like Don’t Look Up… Lazy. #GMB"

And a third said: "The oil activist on #GMB should padlock herself to Richard Madeley's leg. He's patronising as f*** and gives off way too many methane emissions."

Another questioned the choice of guests on the programme, saying: "#GMB a bit of a disgrace bringing a 20 year old on and trying to make her look silly instead of a scientist to back up what she’s saying. Poor show, stinks.

"There was an apparent catastrophe in “covid” and it was ok working from home then but when the climate is ruined that’s ok?"

And a fifth said: "How on does this condescending and odius RM still remain on our screens, this young lady was explaining the facts and he just run roughshod over her.... The infantile RM is pathetic and should leave interviews to the grown ups. #GMB"

Others even called for Richard's resignation following this debate, with one Twitter user writing: "@GMB #GMB look at that hashtag and how many people agree that that interview was bullying. Get rid of Richard Madeley.

"It’s not good tv. It’s not informative or impartial. It’s uncomfortable."

Many people stood up for Miranda, with further comments reading: "Richard is so damn rude. All of them shouting this lady down. Bullying at its finest. This lady has a message.. an important message and one day we are all gonna wish we listened.. including you Richard #gmb"

And another wrote: "#gmb this is very uncomfortable viewing, this poor lady is almost being hounded by these “grown ups” she has a fair point maybe if the government listened she and fellow demonstrators actually care. Good on her!"

Good Morning Britain continues on Tuesday, April 12, on ITV from 6am onwards.
