Good Morning Britain fans not happy as Susanna Reid breaks down on air

Susanna Reid was overcome with emotion during Tuesday's instalment of Good Morning Britain.

Today (June 14) marks five years since 72 people were killed in the Grenfell tragedy. An ongoing inquiry into the disaster has since found the cladding on the 24-storey building was a key factor in the rapid spread of the blaze.

Susanna and co-host Richard Madeley were joined in the studio by David Badillo, who was the first firefighter to enter the building on that fateful day in 2017.

David explained how he searched frantically for a 12-year-old girl, not realising she was the niece of his friend Manny Ruiz. Sadly, Jessica Ramirez had gone up to the 23rd floor, where she died.

David and Manny, who also appeared in the GMB studio, have campaigned tirelessly since the horrific event. And as they shared their experiences, Susanna couldn't help but cry.

She said: "I mean, it's hard for me and all I did was report on it here in the studio. I just can't imagine how hard it is for you to listen to, I know you're friends. At the time, David, you didn't realise you were looking for your friend's niece.

"[Jessica] had done what she thought was the safest thing to do. And unfortunately that meant she was getting further into danger, it's hideous."

Viewers at home were clearly incensed over the tragedy and the government's handling of what had happened. Taking to Twitter, Lidz said: "Every mention of Grenfell makes me rage, this government clearly doesn't give a s***".

Rabbit Lady said: "That poor firefighter, Justice For Grenfell". Michelle said: "Wow, five years ago, and still no answers", while Tony S said: "We all know why there's a lack of action on Grenfell".
