Goncalo Ramos sends Newcastle United timely reminder with Champions League goal

Newcastle United are still hoping to strike a deal for a striker or a winger before the transfer window slams shut in just over a fortnight's time. The Magpies have been linked with a whole host of attacking talent, but Goncalo Ramos is the current man of the moment.

The Benfica striker had a successful audition against the Magpies last month, scoring in the Eusebio Cup win over Eddie Howe's side, and has continued his fine run of form. The 21-year-old has scored five goals so far this season, including a second for the Eagles in their 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv in the first-leg of the Champions League play-off game.

The Toon have missed out on the likes of Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko and can't afford to let another young talent slip through their fingers. Newcastle are yet to go back in for the striker, having reportedly submitted and offer at the beginning of the month, but Benfica holding out for around £35million.

Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton have also been linked with the Portuguese youth international, but Newcastle have been credited with being the closest to a deal according to the Portuguese press.

Here's what Newcastle United supporters had to say on Ramos' performance:

@LiamCha98845241 tweeted: "Would love Ramos, [he] looks in really good form. [I] Feel like with us going for Joao Pedro we won’t be going for him now. Hope I’m wrong though."

@TalkOfTyneside said: "Watched Gonçalo Ramos for Benfica tonight and impressed with his all round game Great hold up play, brought others into the game and capped off with a great goal Rumoured to be available for €30-€35m, I’d like to see us firm up our interest."

@Perennialpundit tweeted: "Gonçalo Ramos has some lovely hold up play."
