Golden Globes 2026: Diego Luna and Benicio del Toro Among the Actors and Filmmakers that Could Break 30+ Records

As Hollywood looks ahead to the Golden Globe Awards, scheduled for January 11, 2026, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, this year's ceremony is shaping up as one of the most potentially historic in recent memory, with Latino actors Benicio del Toro, Diego Luna and Wagner Moura poised to break important records.

The nominations, announced in early December, placed One Battle After Another firmly at the center of the awards conversation after emerging as one of the most nominated films of the year, alongside heavyweight titles like Wicked: For Good, Hamnet and Sinners. With the Globes once again serving as the unofficial kickoff to awards season, the mix of major studio projects, international contenders and boundary pushing talent has set the stage for record breaking nights and long overdue firsts.

According to research from VegasInsider.com, among the most closely watched possibilities is whether One Battle After Another could challenge the long standing Golden Globes record held by La La Land for the most wins by a single film in one ceremony. On the acting side, the Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical race carries historic weight, with nominees Cynthia Erivo (Wicked: For Good) and Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another) positioned to become only the second Black woman to ever win in the category, and the first in more than three decades following Angela Bassett. International representation is also front and center, as Lee Byung hun, nominated for No Other Choice, could become both the first South Korean and the first Asian actor to win Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical at the Globes.

The directing category could also make history in multiple ways. Chloé Zhao, nominated for Hamnet, is poised to potentially become the first woman to claim multiple Golden Globe wins for Best Director, further solidifying her place among the industry's most influential filmmakers. At the same time, Ryan Coogler, nominated for Sinners, could become the first Black director to win in the category, a milestone that would mark a significant shift in the awards body's history. Together, these nominations underscore a season increasingly defined by broader representation and overdue recognition across genres and backgrounds.

On the television side, age and longevity narratives add another layer of intrigue. Claire Danes, nominated for The Beast in Me, could join a select group of performers who have won five or more Golden Globes for acting, while Jeremy Allen White, nominated once again for The Bear, has the opportunity to match or surpass records held by Michael J. Fox and Alan Alda in the Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical category. Meanwhile, Steve Martin, nominated for Only Murders in the Building, could become the oldest male actor ever to win a Golden Globe if he takes home the prize at age 80. At the opposite end of the spectrum, Owen Cooper, nominated for Adolescence, could break records as the youngest Supporting Actor winner on television, placing him among the youngest male Globe winners in the ceremony's history. All signs point to a Golden Globes night where legacy, youth and global voices collide in ways the show has rarely seen before.
