Golden Globes 2025: Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell lead British and Irish nominees

Keira Knightley, Hugh Grant, and Colin Farrell lead the British and Irish 2025 Golden Globes nominations.

Knightley is up for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series in Netflix's series Black Doves, while Dublin-born Farrell is up for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture for his role in The Batman spin-off series The Penguin.

He is also up against fellow Dubliner Andrew Scott, for his performance in the Netflix series Ripley, in the category. Eddie Redmayne and Andrew Scott join the pack.

Grant, meanwhile is up for Best Male Actor in a Motion Picture with his film heretic. Joining him in the category is Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne for his role in Sky Atlantic's thriller, The Day of the Jackal, which is also up for best drama series.

Bond star Daniel Craig will also be hoping it's third time lucky as he also vies for Best Actor in a Drama for his role in Queer.

Craig, 55, previously received nominations in 2020 and 2023 for his performances in the Glass Onion movies, but failed to take home a gong.

Others in the category are Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown), Colman Domingo (Sing Sing), Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice), and fellow Brit Ralph Fiennes (Conclave).

Meanwhile, Kate Winslet has secured her 14th and 15th Golden Globe nods for her roles in the drama Lee as well as the limited series The Regime.

In the film category, Winslet faces tough competition from fellow English actress Tilda Swinton (The Room Next Door), alongside Pamela Anderson (The Last Showgirl), Angelina Jolie (Maria), Nicole Kidman (Babygirl), and Fernanda Torres (I’m Still Here).

But the shortlist for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, which will take place at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on January 5, overlooked many hit projects and stars, and others were unexpectedly recognised.

British director Sir Steve McQueen’s film Blitz, starring Saoirse Ronan, was notably absent from the Golden Globe nominations, while Paul Mescal was not recognised in the best actor category for Gladiator II.

The 2025 Golden Globes nominations, which were dominated by musicals the likes of Wicked, were announced by US actors Mindy Kaling and Morris Chestnut live on Monday, December 9. The Globes will be hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser.
