Golden Gate Bridge, in 'fair' shape, gets $400 million to brace against earthquakes

The Golden Gate Bridge is set to receive $400 million from the multibillion-dollar infrastructure bill signed last year by President Joe Biden, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday.

The $400 million will go toward retrofitting the iconic span for earthquakes.

The Federal Highway Administration "found that the Golden Gate Bridge is currently in 'fair condition,' but noted that continued deterioration would result in a 'poor' rating within the next three years," Pelosi's office said in a release. "The newly announced federal funding will allow this remaining section to undergo vital seismic upgrades and ensure the bridge's continued structural integrity."
