Gold prices moved up across major cities today (Thursday, August 20, 2026), with jewellers quoting higher rates for 22k gold jewellery compared to prices on Wednesday. The increase is visible across major jewellery brands, including Tanishq, Malabar Gold & Diamonds, Joyalukkas and Kalyan Jewellers across major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram.
The IBJA’s latest indicative retail rates of 24k, 22k, 20k, 18k and 14k gold and 999-purity silver also saw an uptick today.
Gold outlook
Prithviraj Kothari, managing director at RiddiSiddhi Bullions Ltd., president of IBJA says, "Gold and silver jumped over 3% to a two-and-a-half-month high after the US Treasury's surprise liquidity support announcement pulled down bond yields and the dollar ahead of the Fed's July minutes. The Treasury will at least double its buyback operations for 10-to-30-year securities, while Secretary Bessent pushed for a higher FIMA facility threshold to ease dollar access for Japan. Fed minutes showed deepening inflation concern, with several policymakers open to a rate hike if inflation doesn't ease toward 2%. Technically, gold broke out of its $4,340-$4,440 range to hit $4,500, eyeing $4,600 next; silver cleared its $66 double top toward $70-71."
