Police are awaiting toxicology results to determine the type of party drug involved in a weekend group overdose that has left a teenager dead and two others in hospital.

Jeremiah Lolohea, 19, died at the Gold Coast University Hospital on Sunday after he was found unconscious at an Arundel address in the early hours of the morning.

A 19-year-old man who was with him was also taken to hospital in a serious condition.

Another was found unconscious and taken to hospital in a critical condition from a Gaven address.

No quality control

Superintendent Rhys Wildman says there are big risks in taking drugs from unknown sources.

"This is a tragic outcome," Superintendent Wildman said.

"You are rolling the dice each time you purchase drugs from an unknown source.

"These are made either at home or in off-site warehouses where there is no quality of control around the quality of the drug or what mixes are included in these particular drugs."

Superintendent Wildman said two of the men have been discharged from hospital.

"Due to the expertise of the staff at the Gold Coast University hospital both of those males have recovered," Superintendent Wildman said.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
