Gok Wan has joined forces with Bupa to create a feel-good playlist, #BupaHealthTracks, now available on Gok’s Spotify. The open playlist has been launched in support of Bupa’s ‘This is Health’ brand campaign.
It follows research that shows eight in 10 UK adults say music is their go-to for enhancing their mood – with the average person listening for around two and half hours per day. And, whilst pop is the genre most associated with happiness, dance is the frontrunner when it comes to getting motivated, and classical leads the way for inspiration and holistic wellness.
Gok said: “This campaign hits the nail on the head when describing what health means to people in 2022. It’s less about marathons and PBs in the gym, and more about the smaller everyday achievements – be it taking the time to stretch, playing with your pet, or dancing with friends in the kitchen.
“It also reveals the huge impact that music can have in helping people enjoy life and achieve their goals. Personally, I love listening to classical music when taking my Frenchie, Dolly, for a walk.
“I’m calling on the nation to add their own songs to Bupa’s new Spotify playlist and share their health wins online using #BupaHealthTracks – we can’t wait to see what songs keep you moving and feeling inspired.”
Senior lecturer in Psychology at the University of Lincoln, Dr Annemieke van den Tol said: “I’ve studied the benefits of music for the past 13 years, and I’m happy to support a campaign that encourages people to listen to music more in their daily life. Listening to music can have many positive effects on our health. These include boosting overall mood, reducing anxiety and stress, and helping us to feel energized or calm.
“As our emotional wellbeing feeds into our health in general, using the right kind of music at the right times can contribute to a more balanced lifestyle. To give an example, listening to our favourite music releases dopamine – the feel-good hormone – which activates the brain’s pleasure and reward system.”
Carlos Jaureguizar Ruiz-Jarabo, CEO of Bupa Global & UK, said: “Music is a universal language of wellbeing, connecting positive mental health with good physical health.
“We’re delighted to collaborate with Gok on the #BupaHealthTracks playlist as it shows the diverse range of music that people listen to daily to celebrate their daily health and wins, whether for exercise, escape or relaxation, boosting their happiness and wellbeing.”
