Gogglebox star Tom Malone Snr has been praised by fans after a trip to the hospital. His wife Julie, who he appears alongside on the Channel 4 series with the rest of his family, updated their followers on Instagram this week.
The couple took a trip to the Plymouth Grove Donor Centre in Manchester where Tom donated platelets and plasma, she told fans in a post. Alongside a photo of Tom sat in a donor chair with three members of staff behind him, Julie wrote: "Tom giving platelets and plasma today! @givebloodnhs PGDC."
Their trip came as the NHS faces increasing demand for platelets to help people undergoing cancer treatment, reports the Liverpool Echo. Fans were quick to praise Tom for his gesture, with many saying they had needed to use blood and platelet banks.
Stevie said: "Thank you Tom. As a person who had received many platelets and blood transfusions in my teens I know how important what you are doing is. Platelet donation isn't talked about enough."
Jane commented: "Well done Tom. I’ve had a stem cell transplant and was able to use my own cells but many people can’t and they rely on people like yourself to donate so thank you very much."
Samantha wrote: "Thanks Tom. I have low platelets, when my platelets drop to a certain level, I require a platelet transfusion- without people like you this isn’t possible."
Heather said: "On behalf of those who need them, we salute you sir."
The Malones, who live in Stretford, south Manchester, often appear on Gogglebox alongside their grown-up children, Shaun and Vanessa. Tom Malone Jr used to be a regular on the show before quitting last year.
On Christmas Day, Julie shared a photo of the whole family, including the grandkids and their third son Lee who does not appear on the show, enjoying their festive celebrations. The family were pictured enjoying Christmas lunch at a Manchester restaurant on a long table as the kids wore paper hats and blew on party horns.
Gogglebox stars are currently taking a well-earned break from our TV screens, but the show is set to return in February 2023.
