Gogglebox will not air on TV tomorrow (Friday 21) as it has been cancelled to make way for another show.
Channel 4 announced the schedule change last night saying that Friday Night Live would now be airing at 9pm instead of the popular show, which sees various families sit on their sofa and watch TV.
Gogglebox is now on Saturday's schedule at 9pm in a huge shake-up for the channel. Announcing the news, Channel 4 said: "It's one for your diary. Brand new Gogglebox isn't on its usual Friday night spot. Saturday at 9pm is your go-to for this week over on Channel 4."
But fans weren't happy about the change and took to social media to vent. One fumed: "They didn’t just announce that #Gogglebox will be on Saturday nights instead of Friday nights from next week, did they?? I ruddy-well hope not."
While another penned: @Channel4 We NEED our light-hearted Gogglebox by the end of the week on a Friday night! It’s what Friday nights were made for."
The show is making way for a one-off special of Friday Night Live, which is hosted by Ben Elton. The comedian, 63, will act as compere for the TV stand-up show, bringing on a bunch of acts to a potential audience of a million.
The programme will feature some of the stars Ben introduced back in the ‘80s like Jo Brand, Harry Enfield and Julian Clary. They’ll be joined by a host of younger faces for the 90-minute special, which kicks off Channel 4’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Ben, who wrote The Young Ones at just 23 and went on to create Blackadder with Richard Curtis, says it’s impossible to plan his political satire while everything’s so up in the air. With the shocking news in cabinet yesterday in which Home Secretary Suella Braverman quit followed by reports of MPs being manhandled through voting lobbies, he's certainly got plenty of material!
“It’s kind of a moving target,” Ben told the Mirror. “I mean, in all the days I did it in the ‘80s, I was never in a position where you had no idea what and who the government would be at the end of the week."
Gogglebox, meanwhile, has its own link to parliament after one of its stars announced he was running for MP. Josh Tapper told fans he's standing to be the first Labour MP for Chipping Barnet, telling voters it's "time to give back and fight for what you believe in".
The TV star, 25, joined his mum, dad and sister on the Channel 4 show until 2017.
