Fans of Gogglebox has been left disappointed after it was announced the show will be postponed tomorrow (Friday, October 21). In a major shake up to the channel's plans, the popular show will be postponed this week to make way for Friday Night Live.
The broadcaster's bosses have announced Gogglebox will be shown on Saturday at 9pm instead, to make room for the new show. Channel 4 said: "It's one for your diary. Brand new Gogglebox isn't on its usual Friday night spot.
"Saturday at 9pm is your go-to for this week over on Channel 4." But fans of the show were predictably unimpressed with the change, reported The Mirror.
One fumed: "They didn’t just announce that #Gogglebox will be on Saturday nights instead of Friday nights from next week, did they?? I ruddy-well hope not."
While another said: @Channel4 We NEED our light-hearted Gogglebox by the end of the week on a Friday night! It’s what Friday nights were made for."
Instead of the fan favourite, Channel 4 will be airing a one-off special of Friday Night Live, hosted by Ben Elton. The comedian, 63, will act as compere for the TV stand-up show, bringing on a bunch of acts to a potential audience of a million.
Guests will include some of the people first introduced by the comedian in the 1980s, such as Jo Brand, Harry Enfield, and Julian Carey. They’ll be joined by a host of younger faces for the 90-minute special, which kicks off Channel 4’s 40th anniversary celebrations.
Ben, who wrote The Young Ones when he was just 25, went on to create Blackadder alongside Richard Curtis. He said it's impossible to plan his political satire with the ongoing turmoil in government.
With the announcement today that Liz Truss is resigning as Prime Minister, he is certainly not short of material.
