More than €23,000 has been raised for a father of one from Dublin who is undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia.
CML is a type of cancer that affects the white blood cells and tends to progress slowly over many years, according to health experts. It can occur at any age but is most common in older adults around 60-65 years of age.
Michael was diagnosed some time ago, according to Glen Whelan - the organiser of this GoFundMe page - and although the early prognosis “was okay,” early treatments did not help his condition.

He now faces a lengthy process of Chemotherapy and a Bone Marrow transplant, which he will receive from his brother Garry after it was determined that he was a match.
Michael now faces months of treatment at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin and will need around-the-clock care in his recovery.
This GoFundMe was set up in order to provide financial respite to the family, his partner Carol and their nine-year-old son Lachlan.
The heartbreaking post read: “Michael was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia some time ago.
“Although the early prognosis was okay, treatments have not helped his condition. So now Micky requires Chemotherapy and a Bone Marrow Transplant which he will receive from his brother Garry, who thankfully is a match.
“Cancer has touched every family so ye can all relate to how rough it is and how much of a weight it can hold on a family.
“Micky is now currently in hospital since the 10th of February and will start treatment for the next 3 months plus in St James Hospital, Dublin.
“All funds raised will be one less thing on his mind and ease the burden on his partner Carol, his 9-year-old son Lachlan and his wider family, who will travel to Dublin to be by his side on a regular basis and will also help with accommodation for Micky near the hospital and the 24-hour care which he will require for a few months after his treatment”.
The family has thanks all of the donors so far and says any future additions will “be deeply appreciated”.
