'God of War Laufey' Leak: Insider Claims It Will Get Early 2027 Release Window

The upcoming spinoff game from Sony Santa Monica's "God of War" franchise, "God of War Laufey," already has a release window leak courtesy of a trusted insider in the industry.

Insider Reveals 'God of War Laufey' Release Window

Reporter Jason Schreier shared the update through a recent video, stating that "God of War Laufey" could be targeting either February or March of 2027 for its release.

Schreier is widely regarded as one of the most well-connected journalists covering the video game industry, and he had previously shared early details about "Laufey" even before its official reveal during PlayStation's latest State of Play.

According to ComicBook Gaming, given Schreier's track record with the project so far, his claim that PlayStation could reveal the actual launch date "pretty soon" carries weight.

Sony Santa Monica announced the game earlier this month, with PlayStation only confirming that the project is "coming soon" without offering any further specifics. Various rumors had already pointed toward a release sometime in the first half of next year, but the latest information suggests the game could land even sooner than that.

When to Expect 'God of War Laufey' Next Year?

If this window holds up, the first quarter of 2027 is shaping up to be an especially packed period for game releases.

Titles like "Fable," "Final Fantasy VII Revelation," "Persona 4 Revival," "Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis," and "Stranger Than Heaven" have all already been confirmed for that same stretch. Adding "God of War Laufey" into that mix would make the early months of next year unusually busy for anyone trying to keep up with new releases.

That said, an early 2027 launch would also make sense given everything else PlayStation reportedly has planned for that year. Naughty Dog's "Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet" is rumored to arrive sometime in the summer or early fall of 2027, and the PlayStation 6 itself is expected to launch by the end of that year alongside a handful of new titles.

Spreading these releases out across the full calendar would help Sony avoid bottlenecking too many major launches into the back half of the year.

What Is 'God of War Laufey' All About?

"God of War Laufey" does not yet have an officially confirmed release date, and PlayStation has not even verified that the game is launching in 2027 at all. Whenever it does arrive, the game is set to be a PS5 exclusive, with no indication so far that a PC version is being planned down the line.

Details on the story and gameplay remain limited for now, but PlayStation already unveiled Deborah Ann Woll as the actress behind the Norse giant and titular character, as well as "The Boys'" Jack Quaid as the gelatinous cube called "Phranque."

That said, a lot remains unknown behind "God of War Laufey," but since it will release early next year, it is expected that more details and a full-fledged trailer will be unveiled soon.
