Sony and its Santa Monica Studio have confirmed when players can officially preorder "God of War Laufey," along with a detailed breakdown of what comes packaged with each edition.
'God of War Laufey' Preorder Dates Confirmed by Sony
Sony confirmed through a blog post that "God of War Laufey" preorders go live on September 29 at 10 a.m. local time. Communications Director Grace Orlady shared the announcement on behalf of Santa Monica Studio, thanking fans for their support since the game was first revealed back in June.
Anyone who purchases the game ahead of launch receives a set of bonuses regardless of which edition they choose. The special bonuses coming with the preorder of the game will center on in-game items and not physical or tangible memorabilia.
Sony noted that some of these items unlock through story progression rather than being available immediately upon starting the game.
'God of War Laufey' Preorder Bonus Unveiled
The standard preorder bonus features either a digital or physical copy of the game, as well as the Last Wish Armor Set for Laufey, the Golden Leaves Appearance for Phranque, and an in-game resource pack.
Beyond the standard preorder bonus, Sony also detailed the contents of the Digital Deluxe Edition. That version includes a Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, and a Dark Alchemy Catalyst, alongside the same in-game resource pack offered to standard preorder customers.
It also comes with a digital mini artbook and the official digital soundtrack for the game.
Sony also shared new details on Faye's Serpent Bow, describing it as an enchanted weapon capable of shifting from a dormant state to a fully notched position almost instantly.
According to GameRant, the bow supports two distinct combat styles. A full press of the aim trigger activates a precision mode with a longer draw distance, letting Faye target specific points on an enemy to impair movement before following up with a melee strike.
A half press instead shifts her into a more mobile hip fire stance, allowing for a burst of arrows at close range. The bow can also be fitted with different Scales that change both its appearance and its combat specialty, alongside unlockable skills that expand what Faye can do with it over time.
What to Expect From 'God of War Laufey'
"God of War Laufey" marks a clear departure from the mainline "God of War" series. The game does not feature Kratos, making it the first entry in the franchise to move away from the character entirely. Instead, the story centers on Faye, a warrior introduced as the series' first playable female lead, giving the franchise a very different perspective compared to its past entries.
The setting also breaks from tradition. Rather than taking place in the mortal realm, "God of War Laufey" is set in the Everywhen, described by Sony as the afterlife of the gods. Faye's gear customization plays into this new setting as well, with her blade, bow scales, and catalyst all fully customizable, letting players tailor her combat style to their preference.
"God of War Laufey" is set to release on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027. With preorders opening the following day after this announcement, fans now have a clearer picture of what to expect both narratively and mechanically from the franchise's boldest shift yet.
