POLICE have launched an investigation after a player was hit with an object during Dundee and Dundee United’s clash on Saturday.
Dundee’s goalkeeper Owen Goodman was allegedly struck with a “missile” during his team’s 2-0 derby win against Dundee United at Tannadice Park.
Police said the item came from the Eddie Thompson Stand and that Goodman was uninjured.
The match referee, David Dickinson, was seen at the time picking up the item and notifying the relevant authorities.
It has been reported that Goodman was interviewed by police after the game ended.
Officers are now appealing for information following the incident. Constable Matthew Boath said the force is working with both clubs to identify the person responsible.
He said: “Thankfully the man was not injured, however, this type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
“An investigation is ongoing and are working closely with both clubs to identify the person responsible.
“I urge anyone at the game who witnessed the incident and can assist in our enquiries to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2015 of 22 August, 2026.”
Following the match, Dundee boss Steven Pressley confirmed that Goodman was unaffected after being struck with the item.
He said: “I’ve just been made aware of that so I’m unsure.
“Whatever he was hit with, it didn’t affect him.”
Meanwhile, Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin did not comment on the matter.
