'Goal of the day' - Ex-West Ham United striker's praise for Bolton Wanderers strike vs Doncaster

Kieran Sadlier's volley for Bolton Wanderers was a 'stunning strike' with the loss it inflicted on Doncaster Rovers evidence of why the Yorkshire side are set to drop in to League Two.

That's the view of former West Ham United and England striker Dean Ashton.

Wanderers took the lead after the break thanks for Amadou Bakayoko slotting home after being found in the box by Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.

The hosts got back on level terms thanks to substitute Mipo Odubeko smashing past James Trafford to give Donny hope.

But Wanderers scored not long after when former Donny man Sadlier fired home a marvellous volley from Dapo Afolayan's pass to ensure the visitors took home the three points on Good Friday.

Wanderers are still in the hunt for a top 10 finish while Doncaster are now six points from safety with three games of their season remaining.

And speaking on the EFL highlights show on Quest, Ashton had high praise for the quality of Sadlier's strike, but felt the short length of time between Odubeko scoring and the second Bolton goal going in shows why Doncaster are set for relegation.

He said: "It feels like this is just another game maybe that shows why they're likely to go down, Doncaster.

"They get themselves back level with Odubeko and then you think 'go on, hold onto it, or go and win the game.'

"A minute later, Sadlier, my goal of the day, that is a stunning finish against his former side. The control on it was fantastic, but I think that just shows why Donny are likely to go down."
