Tottenham are blessed to have a striker obsessed with goals and records.
Harry Kane drew level with club legend Jimmy Greaves on 266 goals in all competitions to put himself on 199 Premier League goals, with only Alan Shearer (260) and Wayne Rooney (208) ahead of him. It is only a matter of time before Kane breaks Greaves’ tally and chases down more records as he may yet put loyalty and personal success ahead of trophies.
The 29-year-old will have just one year left on his contract this summer but may just be ready to stay and become a one-club man, which would only enhance his legendary status. England captain Kane scored his first Spurs goal against Shamrock Rovers in December 2011 and has been scoring ever since for club and country.
It certainly saved Tottenham ’s night at Craven Cottage and, even amid a mood of uncertainty and frustration at White Hart Lane, the fans know they can count on Kane. For that reason, surely Kane deserves praise and respect rather than people questioning his ambition. He flirted with Manchester City 18 months ago but now, as time goes by, it is harder to see him leaving.
There is certain to be interest this summer in Kane - Manchester United and Bayern Munich are keen - but the mood seems to be changing in favour of him being ready to discuss a new deal to stay at Tottenham. No matter what happens with Antonio Conte and the fans chanting “We want Daniel Levy out” at the Tottenham chairman. Kane is the most important person at White Hart Lane and is irreplaceable because of his goals and single-mindedness.

You can understand his frustration at not winning silverware with Tottenham and maybe in years to come he will live to regret his decision to stay for so long. But in the days of egos and multi-million pound contracts, Kane surely deserves respect rather than derision, and he is without question lifting an average Spurs team, because for them still to be within reach of the top four is a testament to his goals and determination.
Tottenham ended a run of back-to-back defeats with a precious, hard fought win at Craven Cottage sealed with a typical Kane finish and a rather fortunate victory. The kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes after hold-ups on the London Underground and there was a bitter cold wind blowing in off the River Thames.
It felt like Tottenham also took their time to get started as Fulham dominated early on, the visitors were poor and 'keeper Hugo Lloris made a couple of smart saves. It was hard to see where Spurs would score from - and then Kane popped up in first-half injury time. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg found Son Heung-min, whose lay-off went into Kane’s feet.
The England captain turned Fulham defender Tim Ream and then worked some space. Kane then guided a perfect, low shot into the bottom corner to leave Leno wrong-footed and the travelling Tottenham fans chanting their talisman’s name again. While Kane nearly equalled and broke the record in one night, his close range header was brilliantly kept out by Leno.
But you can be certain there are dozens more goals to come.
