Goa: Vaccination for children in 12-14 age group from tomorrow, likely at schools and govt hospitals

PANAJI: Children in the age group 12-14 years will be able to get vaccinated with Corbevax, an intramuscular vaccine against Covid-19, from Wednesday onwards.

“Goa has already received 49,200 doses of the vaccine. These were kept at state-level stores and now we have received instructions to send them to the periphery,” state immunisation officer Dr Rajendra Borkar said.

“The health ministry will hold a video conference on Tuesday sharing the guidelines. After this we will have our own meeting to chalk out a plan. For the children attending schools, it will be administered in schools. The remaining children can get vaccinated at government hospitals,” he said. The second dose will be administered after 28 days.

“Schools have opened now so children should take this vaccine. It’s important to protect them,” Borkar added.

The state will also begin administering booster doses for all the 60+ persons irrespective of whether they have comorbidities or not, at all primary health centres. However, they must complete nine months after taking their last dose. Until now, the booster doses were being administered only to senior citizens who had comorbidities, besides healthcare and frontline workers.

Meanwhile, Goa reported seven new Covid-19 infections and zero mortalities on Monday. The case positivity rate was at 1% with 656 samples tested. Active cases have fallen to 94 with two recoveries during the day. The recovery rate was at 98.4%.
