Goa: Rain may reduce from Monday, says IMD scientist Rahul M.

Slight decrease in rainfall for few days from Monday: IMD

A well-marked low pressure area over the northeast Arabian Sea intensified into a depression on Saturday, triggering overcast conditions and increased precipitation, as slightly sunny conditions on Friday provided brief relief after a week of moderate rain.

The system, which lay centred 70km off Gujarat's Porbandar coast, is very likely to move slowly north-northwestward along the coasts of Saurashtra and Kutch during the next 24 hours. Subsequently, it will move northwestward towards the Oman coast. The IMD has forecast a slight decrease in rainfall from Monday for a few days.

"By late evening on Sunday, the effects of the depression are likely to reduce," IMD scientist Rahul M said. "But the presence of the depression in motion and an offshore trough off the Gujarat coast has raised the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall for Sunday."

A cautionary signal no 1 (DC) has been ordered to be hoisted at all ports from Dahanu in Maharashtra to Mormugao in Goa.

On Saturday, the seasonal total had touched 1,837.9mm, while a total of 1,463.6mm is considered normal at this stage. The surplus has decreased marginally to 25.6% after moderate rainfall last week. tnn
