'Go to the trenches' - Kurtis Guthrie rallies Livingston troops for top six battle

Kurtis Guthrie has backed Livingston to stick together at the vital time as they prepare to ‘go into the trenches’.

The Lions dropped into seventh in the Premiership with Saturday’s hugely disappointing 3-0 defeat to St Mirren.

Manager David Martindale admits the loss has heaped pressure on his side as they go into the last three games before the split needing points to secure a top-six finish.

The Almondvale men face a trip to on-form Motherwell this weekend desperate for a response after just one win in their last seven matches.

And Guthrie is convinced Livi have what it takes to ensure they give themselves an exciting end to the season.

He said: “We’ve got to roll our sleeves up and go into the trenches.

“We’ve got three games to go and if you look at the fixtures you’d rather have ours than theirs.

“We can’t let 45 minutes of football define our season. We know what we’re about so we’ll put it right.

“We can’t get disgruntled or start getting down on ourselves.

“We need to get a good week of training in and then we’ve got a big game on Saturday.

“It’s all to play for, it’s still in our hands if you look at the fixtures, and you’ve got to have self-belief in this game.

“If you come in and start doubting each other and doubting the system and doubting this, that and the other then you’re not going to go anywhere.

“So, it’s all about sticking together and that’s what we’ve got. We’ve got a great group of boys and there’s no doubt we’ll sort this out.”
