Sir Jim Ratcliffe, owner of Ineos and one of Britain's richest men, has registered his official interest in a takeover of Manchester United.
The petrochemicals billionaire has officially entered the bidding process, according to the Times, after registering his interest to buy the club he has supported all his life. Back in November, the Glazer family released a statement announcing they were to 'explore strategic alternatives' for United - a hint that they would be willing to sell the club after 18 years at the helm.
They have appointed the Raine Group as the club's exclusive financial advisor for the sale - the same company that managed the takeover of Premier League rivals Chelsea last year. Sir Jim also entered into the running to purchase the Stamford Bridge outfit from Roman Abramovich before Todd Boehly and his consortium acquired the club back in May.
