Contractor GMI Construction has been appointed to build a new £32 million development of apartments in Birmingham.
The company has won the brief from Sheffield-based developer HBD to construct the canalside complex called 'Setl' at the corner of Lionel Street and Ludgate Hill.
It will contain 101 apartments, 2,350 sq ft of ground-floor commercial space and amenities for residents including workspace, lounge, gym and rooftop garden.
Work on building the apartments can start in earnest following weeks of demolition activity at the site in the Jewellery Quarter which was previously home to office block Cornwall House.
This is HBD's first city centre development in Birmingham and has been designed by Jewellery Quarter architecture practice BPN.
Andy Bruce, divisional marketing director of GMI Construction Group, said: "We are very much looking forward to seeing this contemporary new development coming out of the ground which will transform a redundant site into a modern, attractive development right at the heart of Birmingham's iconic Jewellery Quarter.
"GMI is proud to have been trusted by HBD to deliver its first city centre development in Birmingham in an area with such a strong commercial history."
HBD director Simon Raiye added: "Setl is one of the city's most exciting new developments, creating high-end, design-led apartments in one of Birmingham's most sought-after areas. We look forward to working with GMI to bring our vision to life."
