AHMEDABAD: The draft budget of the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) for the financial year 2022-23 focuses on infrastructure development and services in newly incorporated areas.
The draft budget of Rs 513 crore, up Rs 154 crore from Rs 358.65 crore last year was presented on Monday. The civic body has allocated Rs 369.05 crore for works related to water supply, sewerage, sanitation and infrastructure development.
The civic body provided Rs 43 crore for door-to-door garbage collection and cleaning of roads. The civic body will spend Rs 79.98 crore on water supply pipelines, sewage pumping stations and treatment plants, aiming to improve services in the new areas. Raisan, Sargasan, Kudasan and Amiyapur areas are among the one municipality, 18 village panchayats and parts of seven village panchayats that were merged with the GMC in June 2020.
GMC has provided Rs 20 crore for roads in the new areas, while it will construct a town hall at Kudasan at an estimated cost of Rs 6 crore. The civic body will also spend Rs 5 crore on building a fire station for the new areas. The civic body’s draft budget is Rs 33.65 crore surplus, as it expects more revenue from property tax from the new areas. The civic body is expecting revenue collection of Rs 75 crore for issuance of building permissions and betterment charges from the new areas. GMC also expects Rs 53 crore from property tax this financial year.
