A Ukrainian family who have sought refuge with a British family in the UK having fled their war-torn country, appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning for an interview on how they are managing their new reality. Presented by Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid, the cameras were in their host-home and Richard spoke to Ukrainian Maria Nishkur, and her young son Bogdan, about how they were feeling.
But some viewers felt Richard's tone was a bit off. "What is it like being in the UK?" asked Susanna to which Maria replied in English that she liked the country very much and found the people very friendly.
Richard however interjected with an enthusiastic comment, speaking slowly he said: "Your English is coming on really well," in what some perceived as a patronising Tone. @Speedquenie on Twitter said: "Please can Richard Madeley stop patronising the Ukrainian family?"

And @DollParts agreed: "Richard Madeley’s patronising interviewing of those poor Ukrainian refugees who are obviously still traumatised by the destruction of their country was hard to watch."
Richard also asked the young boy, Bogdan how he was getting on at school, but didn't have a comment to make on his grasp of English, only congratulated him on having already made some school friends.
