Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid has teased the possibility of X Factor returning to our TV screens amid rumours of a reboot.
The ITV presenter addressed the recent reports on Monday’s instalment of the morning programme while chatting over the entertainment news with presenter Radzi Chinyanganya.
Radzi said: “Rumour has it X Factor could be making a comeback. Simon could be all set to revive his show as soon as 2023 to recapture that magic.”
However, Radzi noted that it's unsure whether the new series would air on ITV or perhaps a different channel.
Susanna enigmatically commented: “There’s plenty of people here at ITV who you might be able to ask,” before Radzi asked whether she would consider appearing on the show as a judge.
Susanna laughed and said “God no,” adding: “I think that’s an enormous amount of pressure, isn’t it? You have to be on it all the time.”
Radzi replied: “It’s a tough gig, but if it comes back it could be one of those magical moments.”
Music mogul Simon Cowell is said to be planning to bring the X Factor back to our TV screens, five years after it last aired.
An industry source told the Daily Stay: “It has been decided that the time is right to bring X Factor back. It’s really exciting. Everyone who will be working on the new series can’t wait to get started.”
Father-of-one Simon is said to be embroiled in secret conversations with a production company about his plans and has reportedly "struck a big-money deal".
“Things are in the early stages at the moment. But the wheels are definitely in motion. It is hoped that production will begin at the end of the year," a source claimed.
X Factor originally kicked off in 2004 and ran for a total of 15 seasons, with an array of judges including Gary Barlow and Tulisa.
The final instalment aired in 2018, with two subsequent spin-off series in 2019, but Simon now reportedly wants the show to return to its glory days.
At its peak, X Factor brought in 19million viewers and is responsible for the major success of acts such as One Direction, Leona Lewis, and Little Mix.
An insider explained: “Producers want to recapture the magic the show had when it was first on TV.
“The focus will all be on the competition element of the show, rather than the razzle dazzle.”
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
