Good Morning Britain host Susanna Reid launched a furious attack on the government on Tuesday's show over fresh claims officials gathered for the Prime Minister’s birthday bash in the Cabinet Room in 2020.
Boris Johnson was thrown a surprise birthday party by wife Carrie during the first Covid lockdown despite indoor social events being banned, according to ITV news.
GMB presenter Susanna slammed the fresh accusations, which claim Carrie Johnson led the staff in a chorus of happy birthday while the PM was presented with a cake, before tucking into picnic food from M&S.
On Tuesday, Susanna and co-host Ed Balls questioned journalists Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire over the claims over 30 officials gathered for the PM's birthday bash in the afternoon of June 19, 2020.
She said: “They thought that because they were behind the gates of No 10, no one was watching.
“We are now and it is a big problem. I don't know how forgiving people are going to be.”
Amid Sue Gray's investigation into the ongoing list of parties at No 10 during the pandemic, while the country was in lockdown or facing huge restrictions, there are rising calls for the PM to resign.
Those who lost loved ones to Covid, some separated due to lockdown rules, slammed the PM's party - branding it "disrespectful".
ITV’s Anita Singh said: “There was a big question at the time about can you allow people to use their own judgement when you give them all the facts or do we have to bring down the law?
“Inside No 10 they felt they could use their own judgement, but the rest of us weren't to be trusted.”
Andrew Pierce replied saying the allegations have been “hugely damaging” to the authority of the Prime Minister, but he added: “I also think you get to the point where you think, 'another party?'
“I still think the one that's caused the most problems in the country is the one before the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral. I know he wasn't there, but it's the culture he allowed to flourish.”
Kevin Maguire weighed in saying: “Maybe if there had been ten minutes he was at a birthday party - that might have been an indiscretion and a mistake. But you put it together with all the other dos?”
GMB host Ed Balls concluded: “He told the House of Commons there weren't parties and there were. If you don't tell the truth in parliament, that's a big problem."
Andrew replied: “He also said rules weren't broken. Rules were broken consistently.”
