GMB's Susanna Reid reminisces as throwback BBC presenting snap shared on air

Susanna Reid looked remarkably different in a throwback snap on Monday's Good Morning Britain show, showing the presenter when she was younger and perched on the iconic red BBC couch.

A much more baby-faced picture of the now 52-year-old ITV morning show host was shown on screen alongside her then-colleague, ex-BBC newsreader Simon McCoy.

Monday's show brought more debate and opinion surrounding the ongoing drama of Gary Lineker being booted from his hosting duties at the BBC match of the day, of which he has now been reinstated due to the public outcry.

But it was a throwback snap of GMB host Susanna that seemingly left her speechless.

Former teammates of Gary's, during his stint as a professional football player, John Barnes, and Simon both came on the show to speak out about the floating opinions surrounding the sports broadcaster.

Whilst discussing the ongoing rows involving the star and the BBC alongside her colleague Ed Balls, both Susanna and Simon were left stunned at the picture as he joined via video link from LA.

"Did that bring good or bad memories Simon?," said Susanna.

Simon laughed and responded: "Fabulous memories but they go back a while don't they Susanna."

Susanna added in her defence, appearing shocked at the image: "Don't they just. I would just like to point out I was very pregnant in that photograph."

John Barnes also slammed the BBC during the segment when he said the public broadcaster "can't have it both ways."

Susanna began her career as a news producer at BBC Radio Bristol in 1994, and become a producer for Radio 5 Live in 1996. She later joined BBC News 24, where she spent two years as a reporter.

It was confirmed on Monday shortly after Lorraine presented her show that Gary Lineker will continue as a BBC presenter after the corporation apologised for “potential confusion caused by the grey areas” of its social media guidelines.

It comes as a host of sports presenters and pundits pulled out of BBC shows at the weekend after the former England striker was told to step back from hosting the show in a row over impartiality.

BBC Director-General Tim Davie has apologised after Lineker was told to step back from presenting Match Of The Day and said he will return to hosting coverage this weekend.

The former footballer has said he is “glad that we have found a way forward” over his return to presenting BBC football coverage, adding: “(I) look forward to getting back on air.”

The BBC Board said in a statement: “The Board welcomes the fact that the executive has reached an agreement following the disruption of the weekend.

“Impartiality is a cornerstone of the BBC. We believe this is the right time to look at the clarity of the BBC’s social media guidance and how it is applied.

“We will support the executive in its continuing work to ensure the organisation delivers world-class, impartial content for all audiences.”

Gary Lineker “will abide by the editorial guidelines” until a review of the BBC’s social media policy is complete, director-general Tim Davie said.
