GMB guest calls for lifetime ban as musicals row kicks off again after Alison's apology

A guest on Good Morning Britain has called for a lifetime ban for those disrupting theatre shows.

Hosts Richard Madeley and Ranvir Singh hosted a debate with actress Debbie Arnold and comedian Mike McClean earlier today, as they discussed whether there should be lifetime bans on theatregoers who sing along during the performances.

Fellow ITV show This Morning sparked controversy last week after hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary appeared to make light of the disrupting theatre performers and staff faced amid a performance of The Bodyguard musical in Manchester being stopped when some audience members disrupted the whole show during the final song.

During the debate, actress Debbie called for a lifetime ban for those who disrupt the performance, unless they apologise.

"During the show, you've got to sit and watch. These people train for years, they're like an Olympic athlete," she said, "The problem is people think they're at home watching TV. They don't realise the actors can see them. A lifetime ban, yes I think so unless they apologise. They've got no etiquette at all," Debbie shared as she gave her verdict.

Mike then went on to say he had a driving ban for speeding but even that only lasted 12 months.

He said: "Footballers get a three match ban, a lifetime ban is a little bit - or put them on the stage and let them sing to everyone," before Ranvir suggested people could be forced to pay for the seats of those around them.

This Morning hosted a discussion about it last week, which led to presenter Alison issuing a grovelling apology on social media after offending ITV viewers and theatre performers during the chat.

"After reflection and the comments I made on Wednesday's show I want to apologise to anyone who I offended especially the incredibly talented theatre performers, who I have the upmost respect for," she wrote.

"I had no idea the level of disruption audiences were causing and tried to make light of the topic on Wednesday's show, and for that I'm truly sorry. I am a great support of theatre and the arts and would never sing at the top of my lungs at any performance, I was wrong in what I said and I've given this a lot of though over the past few days and believe I was wrong."
