Daniel Radcliffe has revealed the challenges of shooting his latest film in the hot climate of the Dominican Republic. The former child star plays the role of eccentric billionaire Abigail Fairfax in The Lost City, who is desperately trying to get his hands on the lost treasure of an ancient city.
Although Radcliffe says he was shooting alongside some incredible actors in an enviable location, filming did not always go swimmingly. The 32-year-old appeared on Good Morning Britain today, March 31, to discuss the experience of filming with presenters Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard.
The Lost City is of the old-fashioned, adventure, Jumanji-type genre, as Susanna Reid described the film, having already seen it. Filming involved Radcliffe being in three-piece suits under the sweltering Caribbean sun, and the star has revealed that Sandra Bullock, who he has watched from a young age, was worried about him at one point during shooting.

The Harry Potter star said: "I was very sweaty. And there was a job to keep me from looking drenched the whole time, but I also had a much easier time with it compared to Channing, Sandra and the crew.
"They were doing long weeks in the jungle and I was coming every so often for two or three days a week just being like 'Hello!'. [I had] far too high energy and was very annoying."
He added: "I was on Zoom with my family back home and I’d be like, 'I’m going to try and not put palm trees in the background of this shot. This feels like I’m really rubbing it in.' On Potter, the furthest we went was Scotland, and I was always very jealous of people talking about James Bond shoots where they got to film in an exotic location."
The actor, who stars alongside Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt in the film, revealed that filming took place on location in the jungles of the Dominican Republic, rather than relying on green screens, CGI and jungle-themed props. Although, Radcliffe did not spend too much time in the jungle for his role, and ended up scaring Sandra Bullock on his first day of filming.
He said: "First day, I was on a boat and I was trying to look cool in a suit. There was very very choppy waters and I think [his fellow actors] were worried about me going over the side on my first day. You don’t see it in the film but Channing was on that boat also sort of doing stunt safety for me, just like leaning and grabbing my leg at some point - I was determined to look cool."
Radcliffe said that, despite the challenges of filming in a hot climate, the overall experience of shooting The Lost City was positive. The star added: "We’ve been in lockdown for quite a long time so I think we were all so happy to be outside and with other people and getting to make this thing again … we all had a very good time."
The Lost City comes out in the UK on April 15.
