A Gloucestershire manufacturing firm is part of a consortium that has been appointed to a £10bn framework of public sector projects.
Headquartered in Stonehouse, Metek specialises in light steel framing for modular buildings. Alongside construction firm Kier, the firm has been selected by government agency Crown Commercial Services for its new offsite construction solutions (OCS) framework.
The agreement, which will run for the next four years, will see the joint venture provide public sector organisations with all elements of offsite construction services, including design, fabrication, construction and installation, as well as direct access to manufacturers.
The framework will consist of six different lots of contracts, including for buildings that fall under construction sectors such as built estate (including education), healthcare, residential, justice, defence, as well as thermal efficiency upgrades.
Kier and Metek will deliver flat panel units for basic floor, wall and roof structures in Metek’s manufacturing hub in Wolverhampton, which will later be assembled on site.
Oliver Rogan, managing director of Metek, described the firm's alliance with Kier as “a game changer” in terms of adding components to the manufacturing process.
He added: “Working with the Kier team on this bid has been inspiring and the whole Metek team are excited to be embarking on this journey and committed to delivering the key requirements of the agreement, whilst continuing to champion UK manufacturing.”
Stuart Togwell, group managing director at Kier Construction, added the “forward-thinking” collaboration with Metek would allow it to provide more capacity and solutions for its public sector clients.
