Global Technology Outage Strands Passengers At San Francisco Airport

Planes resume flights following an FAA system outage at Laguardia Airport in New York

Kelly Skjerven was en route to a friend's bachelorette party in Las Vegas, Nevada when she encountered a challenging situation at San Francisco airport. A global technology outage caused hundreds of passengers, including Skjerven, to be stranded at the airport on Friday morning.

Skjerven was aboard a United Airlines flight scheduled for 11 p.m. on Thursday when passengers were informed via intercom about IT issues affecting the airline. As a result, passengers were asked to deplane while the airline worked to address the problem. This technology outage has not only impacted airlines worldwide but also affected health systems, banks, grocery stores, and media companies.

Currently, weary passengers are gathered near the gates, with some individuals, including adults and children, resorting to sleeping on the airport floor due to the prolonged delay. Skjerven attempted to secure accommodation at a nearby hotel, only to find it fully booked.

Skjerven's journey to Las Vegas commenced on Thursday morning from Toronto, Canada. Her original WestJet flight from Calgary to Las Vegas was canceled on Thursday due to a staffing issue, which was unrelated to the ongoing technology outage. Source has reached out to WestJet for further information on the matter.
