China’s stock markets were on course for their strongest session in about a month on Friday, while Hong Kong equities also advanced as investors looked for signs of easing trade tensions ahead of next week’s meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The CSI300 index of large-cap stocks and the Shanghai Composite were both up around 1% by the midday break, putting them on track for their biggest single-day gains since mid-August. In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index gained about 0.7%.
