Former Glentoran winger Tim McCann is heading back to the BetMcLean Oval as part of Mick McDermott’s backroom staff.
McCann, who recently parted company with Larne where he had been an integral part of Tiernan Lynch’s coaching team, has been appointed first team coach with the Big Two giants.
The 50-year-old, who won league titles with the Glens and Cliftonville, scored 41 goals in 281 appearances across two spells with the Ovalmen in the late-90s and 2000s.

“I think it’s no secret the affiliation and love I have for this club, so to get a chance to come back was a no brainer for me,” McCann told the Glentoran YouTube channel.
“It is still sinking in and it kind of all happened over the last 24 hours. There was no real thought process in it. I spoke to Mick and Windy (Paul Millar) and I’m eager to help.
“To be here and meet the players for the first time is great. I’m also looking forward to working with (fellow first team coach) Rodney McAree and getting stuck into our first training session.”
McCann, who won two league titles with the Glens in 1999 and 2003, is eager to help the East Belfast club end its ongoing wait for championship glory.
The last time the Big Two giants, who finished third and missed out on Europe last season, lifted the Gibson Cup was under the late Alan McDonald in 2009.
“This team should be winning leagues and trophies every year and if we can get the club back to doing that, I’ll sleep well at night,” said McCann.
“To pull the (Glentoran) jersey back on means a great deal and people at Glentoran know I always played for the jersey and for me it’s all about the badge.
“Everybody knows last season maybe wasn’t as good as it should have been and could have been, but everyone at the club, Mick and Windy down, is aiming to put that right.”
McCann had been part of Tiernan Lynch’s backroom staff at Larne since 2017 but parted company with the Inver Park club earlier this summer, claiming the time had "simply come to move on".
Glentoran confirmed the departure of former first team coach Kieran Harding earlier this week.
