Glen Johnson sends top-four warning to Liverpool as 'issue' emerges

Liverpool have been told by a former player what could be an ‘issue’ for them in finishing in the Premier League’s top four.

The Reds have made an inconsistent start to this season, having picked up just nine points from their first six league fixtures. That form has left them six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will not play a league match until October 1, when Brighton, visit Anfield, having had their fixtures against Wolves and Chelsea postponed. That could mean that Liverpool fall further adrift of the Premier League’s summit by the time they are next in action.

The Reds are currently four points outside the top four but Glen Johnson believes his old club will make up the ground before the season finishes. However, the ex-England international did explain a possible “issue” Liverpool could have in the battle to secure Champions League football for next season.

“No, I don't think so,” said Johnson, when asked by BettingOdds.com if Liverpool could fail to finish in the top four this season. To be honest, I’d expect them to get top four quite comfortably. Obviously, the games come thick and fast and you need to find some form.

“There’s always been some surprises, like Arsenal for example. I don’t think anyone would have predicted how well they’ve been playing.

“You have to be careful because the games come quick and fast, and if they don’t start picking up the points and get the momentum going soon, then it could be an issue.”
