Glazers slap comical price tag on Manchester United to make sale stance clear

The Glazers have slapped a massive £9billion price tag on Manchester United.

It is an extraordinary number considering the most-expensive sports club purchase ever was when the Denver Broncos were taken over by Walton-Penner Group for around £4.2bn earlier this year.

However, the Glazer family aren't willing to part company with United unless they get such a mammoth offer, according to the Daily Star, while publicly they continue to insist that the club are not for sale. A £9bn sale, more than double the Broncos' purchase price, would make United the most valued sports team in the world.

Currently, the Dallas Cowboys are the most coveted sports club with a value of around £7.2bn. The New England Patriots are valued at around £5.7bn, with the New York Yankees baseball franchise are valued at £5.3bn.

The most expensive football team, according to Si, are currently Real Madrid, valued at £4.6bn. La Liga rivals Barcelona are second on the list at a mere £4.5bn, with United third (£4.1bn), Liverpool fourth (£4bn), and Bundesliga side Bayern Munich completing the top-five (£3.9bn).

Details of the Glazers' stance comes after discussions with Jim Radcliffe were revealed by the English billionaire.

Radcliffe admitted he held talks with brothers Joel and Avram Glazer about buying United but was told the family didn't want to sell. The 69-year-old failed in a bid to buy Chelsea in the summer but is keen to take over the Old Trafford club, who have won just two major trophies since Sir Alex Ferguson's departure in 2013.

Radcliffe said: "We can't sit around hoping that one day Manchester United will become available."

The Glazers have received a lot of criticism from the United faithful for how they have run the club in the last 17 years since taking over in 2005 for around £800m.

There was a major protest before the Red Devils' home game against Liverpool in 2021 following the Super League developments, following the Glazers involvement. It forced the clash to be postponed.

It is hard to imagine someone being willing to spend more than £9billion on a club whose current market value is less than £4billion.
